Carles Puyol gives valuable advice to Hansi Flick
Barcelona has appointed German coach Hansi Flick to replace Xavi Hernandez. Flick’s goal is to rejuvenate Barcelona after a tough season and he plans a comprehensive restructuring of the team before the new season starts. This includes identifying players to leave and new signings, given the club’s financial challenges.
Barcelona icon Carles Puyol stressed that for Flick to succeed, he must part ways with certain players. Puyol specifically pointed to Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong as the first candidate to be sold this summer, citing inconsistent performances, frequent injuries, and high wages.
Puyol believes that moving on from de Jong presents a crucial opportunity for Barcelona to undergo significant rejuvenation.
In addition, the legendary defender stressed that the second player Barcelona should sell is Ter Stegen, whom he identified as a significant weakness for the team. Puyol explained to Radio Catalina that Ter Stegen often lets in avoidable goals that undermine the team’s efforts and is rarely decisive in crucial matches.
Puyol asserted that addressing the issue of Ter Stegen is crucial for Flick to achieve success with Barcelona, pointing out that titles have been lost in recent years because of his performances.
Furthermore, Puyol concluded his remarks by suggesting that the third player who should be offloaded from Barcelona is Brazilian winger Rafinha. Puyol argued that Barcelona should look for a winger who is more consistent and skilled than Rafinha, whose performance levels vary greatly throughout the season.
