During his inaugural press conference as a Marseille player, Mason Greenwood fielded questions about his previous experiences.
On Friday, Greenwood completed a permanent departure from Old Trafford following a loan spell at Getafe in La Liga during the 23/24 season. United officially announced his move to French club Olympique de Marseille with a statement that highlighted his contributions during his time at Manchester United, where he made 129 appearances and scored 35 goals after debuting in 2019. The club wished him well in his future endeavors.
During his inaugural press conference at Marseille, the 22-year-old was asked about his past. In response, Greenwood said, “I understand the questions. I don’t want to dwell on it or engage in controversies. I already addressed it on Thursday with the supporters and discussed it last season. I’m looking forward, focused on being part of Olympique de Marseille.”
Greenwood added, “My main focus is on football. I’ve heard about the club’s foundation work, associations, and hospital visits, and like my teammates, I’ll be involved in these initiatives. This season, my goal is to perform well for Marseille, especially at the Velodrome in front of our amazing fans.
I’ve been eagerly anticipating this opportunity, and I’m excited to play in front of such a passionate crowd. Right now, my concentration is solely on my responsibilities with the club.”
Meanwhile, Marseille president Pablo Longoria stated, “I respect everyone’s opinion, but I’m not here to engage in controversy. We’re discussing the past, which is a complex and longstanding situation. It’s time to focus on the future.
As president, I will support Mason to help him achieve the club’s objectives, both on and off the pitch. He embodies the values we aim to cultivate at the club, just like all his teammates present and future.”
