Leny Yoro reveals the one Man Utd player he’s already ‘really close’ to after less than a week at the club

Leny Yoro has revealed the first Manchester United player that he has become ‘really close’ to after signing for the club.

The 18-year-old transferred from Lille to Old Trafford for an initial £50 million last Thursday. He made his debut in United’s 2-0 friendly victory over Rangers on Saturday, delivering an impressive performance in the first 45 minutes.

United beat out several top clubs, including PSG, Liverpool, and Real Madrid, to secure Yoro’s signature, with reports indicating Real Madrid declined to match United’s offer.

In an interview with United’s official website, Yoro discussed various topics, including his admiration for fellow centre-back Rio Ferdinand as his Old Trafford idol. He also mentioned his close friendship with Kobbie Mainoo, who reached out to him, describing Mainoo as a supportive and friendly person.

Mainoo participated in Euro 2024 with England this summer and has not yet started pre-season training with Manchester United for the upcoming campaign. Despite this, he has made a new acquaintance in Joshua Zirkzee, who is another recent signing at Old Trafford. During the tournament, the 19-year-old was seen conversing with Zirkzee after England defeated Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

Zirkzee disclosed Mainoo’s inquiry to him, stating, “Yeah, he just asked if I was coming. I replied, ‘See you soon after the final’.”

Once they reconvene at Carrington, Mainoo will have already gained substantial pre-season playing time. Initially scheduled to participate in the Olympics for France under Thierry Henry’s guidance, Mainoo’s former club Lille withdrew him from the squad due to ongoing transfer negotiations.
