A former Barcelona defender is prepared to make financial sacrifices to secure a return to the club this summer. According to Diario Sport, that player is João Cancelo, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona from Manchester City. Despite some notable errors towards the end of his tenure, Barcelona officials were pleased with Cancelo’s overall performance and are keen to bring him back.
Sport reports that Cancelo, alongside head coach Hansi Flick and others at Barcelona, share a strong desire to reunite for the 2024-25 season. Cancelo is reportedly willing to reduce his salary to facilitate the move. Deco and the Barcelona board are expediting negotiations to bring Cancelo back on a season-long loan with a mandatory purchase option contingent on certain conditions.
At 30 years old, Cancelo has reportedly committed exclusively to returning to Barcelona, leaving Manchester City little choice but to approve the deal in the near future.
