Arne Slot is poised to approve the sale of a player from Liverpool, a decision that fans are questioning as potentially being a ‘mistake’.
Arne Slot has not made any new signings since taking charge at Liverpool. However, three players have returned to the squad following loan spells away from Anfield. Fabio Carvalho spent last season at Hull City, Calvin Ramsay had loan stints at Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers before joining Wigan Athletic for the upcoming season, and Sepp van den Berg impressed during his loan spell at Mainz, making 33 Bundesliga appearances.
Despite Van den Berg’s strong performances in pre-season, there are rumors of a permanent departure from Liverpool. Rik Elfrink reports interest from PSV Eindhoven and Stuttgart in signing the defender, with Liverpool likely to agree to a deal valued around €20 million.
PSV, however, may not be willing to match that figure but are expected to make a significant offer to secure the services of the promising Dutchman.
Some Liverpool fans are expressing strong reservations about the potential sale of 22-year-old Sepp van den Berg this summer, voicing concerns on social media that it could be a significant mistake. One user on X emphasized their belief, stating, “Calling this now but selling him is gonna be a mistake he’s going to be a world beater.” Another supporter tweeted, “Give him a chance, he had a good season in the Bundesliga,” underscoring the player’s potential. A third fan simply added, “Would be a mistake.”
Van den Berg initially joined Liverpool from PEC Zwolle for an initial fee of £1.3 million, which could rise to £4.4 million with additional clauses. Despite his loans to Preston, Schalke, and Mainz, he has yet to make an appearance in a Premier League match for Liverpool.
