Key factor could result in Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez receiving long ban from football

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez could face a lengthy suspension from football if FIFA becomes involved following his confrontation with Colombian fans during the Copa America semi-final.

The Reds forward found himself in trouble after Uruguay’s 1-0 loss to Colombia in the semi-finals. Following the match, a clash erupted between Colombian supporters and the families of Uruguayan players. Some Uruguayan players, including Nunez, joined the fray in the stands to protect their relatives. Nunez was seen punching fans and also attempted to throw a chair at the Colombian supporters before being restrained.

The organization by CONMEBOL during the tournament was a mess, contributing significantly to the incidents that took place. Despite this, Nunez could still face a substantial football ban.

In a similar case, former Tottenham player Eric Dier was suspended for four matches after he climbed into the stands to confront fans who were harassing his brother. This precedent suggests that Nunez might face a similar or even lengthier suspension.
