Manchester United are on the verge of completing their third major signing of the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have been quite active in the Premier League transfer market this window, bringing in several new players. Joshua Zirkzee arrived earlier this month from Bologna in a £36.5m transfer, and Leny Yoro followed in a deal that could reach £62m from Lille.
United are poised to finalize a third signing, with Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui reportedly set to join Erik ten Hag’s team. According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, United have ‘verbally agreed’ on a deal for the right-back. However, the transfer will only proceed if Aaron Wan-Bissaka consents to move to West Ham.
Manchester United reached a verbal agreement today to sign Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich,” Aouna posted on X.
“Mazraoui has already given his approval to MU. The only remaining step is finalizing personal terms between West Ham and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
“MU and West Ham have already agreed on a deal for Wan-Bissaka.”
Previously, West Ham was the leading contender for Mazraoui, with the BBC reporting on Thursday that the Premier League club had agreed on a fee for the Moroccan.
It was reported that West Ham had agreed to pay Bayern an initial fee of €16m (£13.47m) for the defender, with an additional €3.5m (£2.95m) in potential add-ons. However, after those negotiations fell through on Friday, United swiftly acted to finalize the deal for the 26-year-old.
Mazraoui began his professional career at Ajax, where he made 137 appearances and scored 10 goals. He moved to Bayern on a free transfer in 2022 and has since played 55 matches for the German club, scoring once.
United aim to finalize the deal for the versatile defender before their next pre-season game against Real Betis on Thursday, with their final warm-up match scheduled against Liverpool on Sunday.
Ten Hag’s team will then play Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10, followed by their opening Premier League match against Fulham on August 16.
