Jose Mourinho is aiming to secure £25 million and is targeting a notable Manchester City player as his major summer acquisition. Reports indicate that Mourinho wants to sign one player from Manchester City this summer, and the club is open to selling. At the Etihad Stadium, the summer has been relatively quiet, with just one new arrival and several young and peripheral players departing. The Saudi Pro League is said to be interested in players like Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne, among others.
Mateo Kovacic, who is drawing interest from Fenerbahce, might also be on the move this summer. Manchester City is open to selling Kovacic, and both Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce are keen on acquiring him. According to The Sun (28/07, p. 57), Jose Mourinho, who recently became Fenerbahce’s manager, has made Kovacic his primary summer transfer target.
It appears Manchester City would consider selling Mateo Kovacic for £25 million, the same amount they paid Chelsea for him. Kovacic is a top target for Mourinho because, despite having been part of three of Mourinho’s teams—Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Inter—he never had the chance to play under him as Mourinho left each team before Kovacic did. It would be prudent for City to entertain offers for Kovacic.
Despite a respectable debut season, Mateo Kovacic did not particularly impress fans at Manchester City. If Fenerbahce were to offer the £25 million City originally paid, the club might consider selling him. Should Kovacic leave, it could open up more opportunities for Matheus Nunes, who struggled for playing time last season due to Pep Guardiola’s preference for Kovacic. Although Nunes has shown potential, his consistency has been a concern. A departure of Kovacic might allow Nunes to gain more momentum and play a larger role at the Etihad.
