Xavi Simons decides in a shocking move that no one anticipated given his links to both Manchester United and Arsenal.

According to a recent report, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons has decided on his next step, and it might surprise many.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who was on loan at RB Leipzig for the 2023/24 season, has been rumored to be moving away from Paris this summer, with several top European clubs showing interest. At one point, Bayern Munich seemed close to securing a permanent deal for the Netherlands international, who played a significant role at Euro 2024.

After scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists in all competitions last season, Bayern reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Simons’ representatives before starting talks with PSG. He also drew interest from Premier League teams Manchester United and Arsenal, but it was revealed on Monday morning that Simons has chosen to remain with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.

According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, Xavi Simons is set to sign a new one-year loan deal with RB Leipzig after his standout performance at the Red Bull Arena.

“There’s no transfer to FC Bayern,” Plettenberg stated on X, formerly known as Twitter. “All parties involved are now informed about it. Therefore, Max Eberl is now looking to sign Désiré Doué.” He added, “Leipzig and Paris are finalizing the last details for a new loan for Xavi. A new one-year deal with RB Leipzig will happen.”

Simons had also been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer. Reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe approved the deal as part of their ongoing rebuild, with Spanish publication SPORT mentioning a potential sum of £84 million.

Arsenal also competed for Xavi Simons’ signature, but it looks like RB Leipzig will have him for another season as he prepares to team up with another highly sought-after talent, Benjamin Sesko.

In February, Simons reflected on his time with the Bundesliga club, saying, “I’m improving myself. I needed a club that would help me advance in my development.”

“At 20 years old, I know there are many areas where I can improve, but I wanted to be competing every week against the best. Playing in the Bundesliga and the Champions League is the ideal stage for me,” he added.
