Hansi Flick is set to take over as Barcelona’s head coach from Xavi, sparking significant interest in his potential impact on the club. German football icon Lothar Matthaus has revealed the kinds of players Flick favors and might want to bring to Camp Nou, although he notes that financial limitations could pose challenges to these transfers.
Matthaus indicated that Flick would be eager to bring talents like Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala to Barcelona. However, he admits that the club’s financial constraints make these acquisitions improbable.
“He has a special affection for Spain, having vacationed there with his family many times. I’m happy for him, especially after his challenges with Bayern Munich and the German national team,” Matthaus commented.
Matthaus also underscored the considerable challenge Flick will encounter at Barcelona, pointing out the financial obstacles while also noting that Flick is well-acquainted with several of the current first-team players.
“Despite the financial difficulties, it’s a significant challenge for him. He will reunite with former acquaintances like Ter Stegen, Gündogan, and Lewandowski in his new role. He might also bring along one or two familiar faces,” Matthaus suggested.
Flick is anticipated to sign a two-year contract with Barcelona, but the official announcement could be postponed until Xavi’s contract situation is settled.
