Fabrizio Romano provides an update on Liverpool’s transfer activity, revealing that a Premier League player has given their approval for the move.

Fabrizio Romano has shared some thrilling transfer news for Liverpool fans, confirming that the club is negotiating to sign a player who has already approved the move to the Reds.

Liverpool have had a subdued start to the summer transfer window and are the only ‘Big Six’ Premier League team yet to sign a senior player. Several seasoned players, including Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, and Adrian, departed the club at the end of June, leaving new head coach Arne Slot with a squad that requires strengthening.

So far, there have been few signs of new signings at Anfield, but that may soon change. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool are in talks to sign Newcastle and England star Anthony Gordon.

The 23-year-old winger had an impressive first full season with Newcastle in 2023/24, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions. His strong performance earned him a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad, though he only made a brief appearance as England finished as runners-up to Spain.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool-born Gordon had previously expressed a willingness to return to Merseyside with the Reds, even though he had made 78 appearances for Everton before moving to Newcastle midway through the 2022/23 season.

On his YouTube channel, Romano mentioned, “In the final days of June, when Newcastle was facing Financial Fair Play issues, Liverpool approached them about Anthony Gordon. There was communication, and the player was interested in the move, so at that time, Anthony Gordon approved a potential transfer to Liverpool.”

However, Newcastle chose not to accept the proposals as there was only an informal exchange of ideas, not a formal bid. Liverpool intended to make an offer, but it did not meet Newcastle’s expectations for Anthony Gordon.

Romano adds, “The interest from Liverpool in Anthony Gordon is still strong and concrete. They hold him in high regard internally, and his name remains prominent on Liverpool’s list of targets.”

Romano stated, “It’s important to note that if Liverpool choose to pursue attacking reinforcements, Anthony Gordon remains a player they highly value. Internally, they are discussing Gordon’s potential because they believe he could be a significant asset for Liverpool’s future.

However, the challenge lies in Newcastle’s valuation. Gordon is a crucial player for them, and they have no intention of accepting a standard price. Any potential move would require a substantial offer to persuade Newcastle to consider letting him go.

At present, Newcastle is keen on retaining Gordon, so it remains to be seen what Liverpool might do if they decide to advance with this deal.”
