Laporta and Deco’s Dream: Create an Unstoppable Barcelona Duo with Spanish Winger’s Signing

Joan Laporta and Deco aim to build a dynamic Barcelona partnership by acquiring Nico Williams from Athletic Club, according to sources familiar with Barça Universal. Their plan is to deploy Nico on the left wing and Lamine Yamal on the right, with the goal of crafting a potent attack to compete with Real Madrid’s offensive strength.

Ongoing Interest Despite Changes

Even with Xavi’s exit, Barcelona continues to be highly interested in the Spanish international. The objective is to pair Yamal and Nico in attack, mirroring their effective collaboration on the national team. With Hansi Flick now involved, Nico Williams is viewed as the prime candidate for the left wing role, given his considerable promise and potential.

Excitement for the Future

The club’s management is eager about the prospect of having two young, speedy, and dynamic wingers. They believe this duo will reinstate the depth and excitement that was lost following Ousmane Dembélé’s departure.

Financial Considerations

Laporta and Deco are mindful of the financial aspects, as Nico’s release clause is €58 million, an increase from €50 million after his recent contract renewal. The fee is deemed reasonable considering Nico’s potential and age. At 21, about to turn 22 in July, he is viewed as a valuable asset with a growing market value, now estimated at €50 million, up from €30 million last year.

Previous Negotiations

Former sporting director Mateu Alemany had previously discussed a potential transfer with Nico’s agent, Felix Tainta, when there was a possibility Nico could join for free due to his contract expiring. However, he chose to renew with Bilbao in December. Currently, Nico is concentrating on the Euro Cup, but speculation about a move to Barcelona persists.

Barcelona remains optimistic and excited about acquiring Nico Williams, confident that his addition will greatly strengthen their attack and enhance their ability to compete at the top level.
