Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has recently responded to rumors about his potential departure from the club this summer. Despite speculation, the Polish striker, who is contracted with Barcelona until 2026, has assured his intention to stay and honor his contract.
This season has been tough for Barcelona, with their performance falling short of last year’s success. They are currently second in La Liga, 12 points behind Real Madrid with one game left. This decline in form has increased pressure on manager Xavi and highlighted the underperformance of several key players. Lewandowski, who won the Pichichi Trophy last season, has scored 18 goals in 34 league appearances this season, which is considered below his usual standards.
In light of Barcelona’s financial troubles and Lewandowski’s high salary, speculation about his departure increased. However, Lewandowski addressed these rumors in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, affirming his intention to remain with Barcelona and pursue more titles. He remarked:
“It’s very clear to me. I want to win many titles with Barcelona, and I am confident that next season we will be even stronger and also claim titles. I always strive for the best, not just for myself but for my teammates as well. I believe this team will achieve titles next season because I see our daily efforts. This club is close to my heart, and I am committed to contributing greatly to the team and the club.”
Lewandowski joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 and quickly made an impact by helping them secure the La Liga title in his first season. Since his arrival, the 35-year-old striker has netted 58 goals in 94 appearances for the club.
Lewandowski has also discussed the significant effect of Gavi’s injury on the team. The young midfielder, who sustained an ACL injury while playing for Spain in November, had appeared in only 12 league matches this season before his injury. In an interview with Marca, Lewandowski highlighted Gavi’s crucial role for the team despite his youth, noting that he has already made over 100 appearances for Barcelona. He commented:
From the start, we knew his absence would be felt. He’s the kind of player who, when things aren’t going well, can lift the team with his movements and intensity. Teams need players like him, and that’s why we miss him. But since he’s not available, we have to wait for his return. He’s a special player; from the moment I arrived, I saw that he has qualities that the team needs. He possesses both talent and drive.
Gavi is expected to be back in time for the pre-season but will not take part in Euro 2024 with Spain. Both he and the club are optimistic about his strong comeback next season to help Barcelona in their quest for titles.
