Liverpool stalwart now contemplating Anfield exit; Reds would sell for the right price – report

Liverpool now have only one player left from before Jurgen Klopp’s tenure, and it’s possible that this situation could change soon.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Newcastle and Liverpool had reached a preliminary agreement for a deal involving Anthony Gordon moving to Anfield and Joe Gomez going to Newcastle. However, Newcastle canceled the deal after the sale of two other players eased their Financial Fair Play concerns.

According to Football Insider, Gomez is now reevaluating his future at Liverpool following this development. The club would be willing to sell him for the right price if a satisfactory offer is received this month.

Due to long-term injuries and the presence of new or emerging center-backs, Gomez has not started more than half of Liverpool’s Premier League matches in a season since the 2019/20 title win.

Having spent a significant portion of his life at Anfield, it’s reasonable to think that the 27-year-old might be considering a new challenge in his career, especially if he can’t secure a regular spot in the team.

Although Gomez may not be a guaranteed starter, he remains extremely valuable for squad depth. As Liverpool’s longest-serving current player, he demonstrated his versatility last season by covering every position along the backline amid numerous injuries.

Gomez also offers significant experience from his 224 appearances for Liverpool, and Arne Slot might see him as a valuable senior figure in the dressing room.

It’s important to remember how well Gomez performed for much of the previous season. We would prefer to keep him in the squad as a reliable player rather than see him move to another club where he could be of benefit to them.
