Liverpool could have crucial edge in chase for £60m dynamo who’s ‘on a different planet’ – report

Liverpool might have a significant advantage over a competing Premier League club in pursuing an exciting attacker during the last month of the summer transfer window.

Football Insider reports that both Liverpool and Tottenham have shown interest in Eberechi Eze. Crystal Palace is concerned that the 26-year-old might leave Selhurst Park, potentially joining Michael Olise and possibly Marc Guehi in departing.

The Eagles’ playmaker has a £60m release clause in his contract with Crystal Palace, along with additional future add-ons. Crucially, this clause can only be activated by clubs participating in the Champions League.

This situation could give Liverpool a significant edge over Tottenham, who are only competing in the Europa League this season and, unlike Liverpool, would not be able to acquire him for a fixed price.

Eze has achieved back-to-back seasons of scoring double figures in the Premier League for Crystal Palace, a notable accomplishment for a player who generally operates behind the forward line and with a team that finished 11th and 10th in those seasons.

Following a standout performance from the 26-year-old in the Eagles’ 5-2 victory over West Ham in April, where he scored one goal and assisted another, Danny Murphy praised him on Match of the Day. Murphy described Eze as being ‘on a different planet’ during that match and labeled him a ‘Champions League player’ with the ability to ‘do it all.’

While his passing statistics may be modest compared to other players in his position across Europe’s top five leagues, his goal-scoring record is exceptional. Additionally, he stands out in one-on-one situations, ranking in the 91st percentile for successful take-ons with an average of 3.02 per 90 minutes.

Given Liverpool’s participation in the Champions League and their serious aspirations for major trophies, there is a strong possibility for the club to attract Eberechi Eze to Anfield during the peak of his career.

While he would face stiff competition for a regular starting spot, Eze would undoubtedly enhance Arne Slot’s squad, particularly in the attacking third, if Liverpool were to make a determined effort to sign him this month.
