Shock Liverpool player impresses fans in Arne Slot’s first game at Anfield

Liverpool fans were shocked after one player put in an outstanding performance in their 4-1 victory over Sevilla in pre season.

On Sunday, Arne Slot managed his debut game at Anfield as Liverpool’s new manager, facing Sevilla in a preseason friendly.

The Dutch coach fielded a robust lineup for the match, featuring Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah in the starting eleven.

However, one player, in particular, captured the attention of Liverpool fans, and it’s not who you might expect.

On X, one Liverpool fan commented: “Gravenberch is really impressive in the defensive midfield role once again 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼”

Another fan remarked: “Ryan Gravenberch has seamlessly integrated into Arne Slot’s team, finally demonstrating his strength and ball-playing skills!”

One fan noted that Gravenberch’s impressive performance might make Liverpool reconsider their pursuit of top transfer target Martin Zubimendi, saying: “I refuse to discuss Gravenberch’s performance at CDM this preseason. I’m worried that if we keep praising him publicly, Michael Edwards might not pursue Zubimendi.”

Ryan Gravenberch joined Liverpool last summer but struggled to secure a regular spot in Jurgen Klopp’s lineup.

However, with Slot in charge, this situation could change, as the club’s playing style seems to have shifted significantly.

Last season, Gravenberch made 38 appearances for Liverpool, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

In his new role within a double pivot midfield, the Dutchman excelled, completing 53 of 56 attempted passes for a 95% success rate, winning 60% of his ground duels, and creating one significant chance.

He played a key role in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Sevilla, with Diogo Jota and Trey Nyoni each scoring, and Luis Diaz netting twice.

However, if Liverpool secures the transfer of Zubimendi, the 22-year-old might return to the bench. Yet, with Wataru Endo appearing to be out of favor, Gravenberch could still see increased playing time this season.

Liverpool will play another friendly today at Anfield, facing La Liga side Las Palmas at 5 pm.
