Chelsea transfer collapses at last minute but Fabrizio Romano immediately drops bombshell on stunning new target

Chelsea’s move for Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion has collapsed – but the club are reportedly turning attention to a stunning new target, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues had been considering a transfer for the Nigerian forward even before it was announced that Conor Gallagher would be moving in the opposite direction.

Nicolas Jackson netted 14 goals in his first Premier League season last year, but faced minimal competition in attack because Christopher Nkunku was sidelined for most of the season due to injury.

Chelsea have thus prioritized signing a striker, but their attempt to acquire Omorodion has fallen through.

El Chiringuito’s Marcos Benito reports that the transfer collapsed due to last-minute alterations to the 24-year-old’s contract.

He also mentions that Chelsea will now pursue a high-profile transfer for Napoli star Victor Osimhen, a player they have been monitoring for several transfer windows.

Osimhen was considered unsellable last summer after scoring 26 goals to help Napoli win Serie A, with the Italian club setting a price of around £200 million.

However, The Sun reports that Napoli may now reduce their asking price to under £100 million due to their failure to qualify for European competition this season.

However, Osimhen is not Chelsea’s sole target. Romano reports that discussions are ongoing about a potential return to Stamford Bridge for forward Joao Felix. Although the deals for Omorodion and Gallagher are independent, Romano suggests that Felix could be included in the deal that would see Gallagher move to Atletico.

He wrote: “Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are now negotiating Joao Felix’s move to Chelsea as part of the Gallagher deal!”

Samu Omorodion’s deal has fallen through, and both clubs are eager to avoid a similar fate for the Gallagher and Julian Alvarez transfers. “Joao Felix is currently being discussed with Jorge Mendes in London.”

Felix had a mixed stint at Chelsea during his loan in the 2022/23 season, being sent off on his debut and scoring four goals in 16 Premier League appearances. Last season, he was on loan at Barcelona, where he scored seven goals in 30 games, but the club chose not to make the move permanent.
