Liverpool’s new corner kick routine under Arne Slot has drawn attention for its unusual approach. During Slot’s first match at Anfield on August 11 against Sevilla, the Reds won 4-1, with standout performances from Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Trey Nyoni.

Fans noticed the peculiar corner routine, which involves all players huddling at the back corner of the box on the side of the incoming corner. Once the kick is taken, the entire team rushes into the box, creating a disorienting effect for the defenders and leaving key players potentially unmarked.

Journalist Lewis Steele highlighted that this tactic nearly worked in the 60th minute when Virgil van Dijk, left relatively unmarked, had a chance to score. Although he didn’t score, the routine shows promise and may become more effective as Liverpool refines it throughout the season.

After the game, first goalscorer Diogo Jota spoke about the intense atmosphere at the club under the new manager.

He said: “I think we worked hard; it’s sunny and very hot today.

“Obviously, it’s always nice to work after a win, and even though we conceded a goal, it was a strong performance overall.

“With a new manager on the touchline, everyone has to adapt. I believe we’re working well; he has high expectations.”

“Even after a 4-1 win, he was still pointing out areas where we need to improve and do better. I think that’s the right approach. We’ve played well in pre-season, but we all know that what really matters starts next week.”
