Manchester United have received new information regarding their efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain player Manuel Ugarte.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s inaugural summer as co-owner of Manchester United has been quite eventful, with numerous new players joining Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag has invested approximately £140 million on signings, including Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
United are determined to close the gap to their Premier League rivals after missing out on European competition last season and have already targeted their next acquisition. Ten Hag aims to secure a top-tier defensive midfielder, especially after choosing not to make Soyfan Amrabat’s loan deal permanent. PSG’s Manuel Ugarte is Ten Hag’s primary target.
Personal terms with the Uruguayan have reportedly been settled, and the situation took a new turn on Friday when Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Ugarte is not in PSG’s squad for their opening Ligue 1 match. Romano noted on X: “Manuel Ugarte is OUT of PSG’s squad for their first Ligue 1 game. He wants to join Manchester United, and the deal is still on. However, it depends on PSG’s demands. Ugarte has been clear: he wants #MUFC as soon as possible.”
Currently, the deal is stalled due to significant differences in the clubs’ valuations of the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder.
It had been proposed that Jadon Sancho might play a crucial role in finalizing the deal for Ugarte, as Paris Saint-Germain had shown interest in the winger who spent last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
Even though Sancho has reconciled with Ten Hag and returned to Manchester United’s first-team setup, his future remains uncertain, and he is thought to be open to a permanent departure from Old Trafford.
However, The Daily Mail now reports that PSG’s interest in Sancho has fallen through. They had been negotiating a deal valued at around £51 million, but Chelsea has now emerged as a potential destination for the former Manchester City player.
