Barcelona star to miss Valencia game tonight due to injury

Barcelona begins their 2024/25 season on Saturday evening with a match against Valencia at Mestalla. Hansi Flick has named his 22-man squad for the game, which includes a surprising omission.

The notable absence is Ilkay Gundogan, who was expected to play a key role in the midfield. Gundogan is out due to a head injury sustained during Monday’s Joan Gamper Trophy match against Monaco, prompting his exclusion from tonight’s squad.

While Gundogan’s absence appears to be precautionary, it remains a significant loss for Flick’s team. Additionally, Pedri, although cleared by medical staff, may not be fit enough for the starting lineup, as confirmed by Flick.

Also missing are Mikael Fay and Vitor Roque; Fay is likely absent due to his impending departure, while Roque, not registered with La Liga, is expected to leave soon.
