Barcelona president Joan Laporta has made a crucial decision to finalize a deal for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. The club is focused on reinforcing its squad for the upcoming season following last year’s disappointments.
According to “Sport” newspaper, Laporta has decided to take over the negotiation duties from Portuguese sporting director Deco. Barcelona has already secured German midfielder Dani Olmo from Leipzig by activating his release clause, but the situation regarding Williams remains uncertain.
Williams has resumed training with Bilbao following his vacation.
Nico Williams has returned to training with Athletic Bilbao after his vacation, which followed his participation in the 2024 European Championship. There are currently no indications that he will join Barcelona this summer.
However, Laporta remains optimistic and has taken over the negotiation process himself in response to fan demand. The fans are eager to see Williams, who formed a successful partnership with Barcelonaâs Lamine Yamal during Spainâs continental championship victory.
Williams’ release clause is set at 58 million euros, presenting a challenge for Barcelona, especially after already paying 55 million euros to activate Dani Olmo’s release clause from Leipzig.
