Arsenal have agreed personal terms with a second summer signing who they want to replace a potential outgoing player.
The Gunners have made only one signing so far, acquiring Italy and Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori for £42 million.
They are aiming to make additional signings before the transfer window closes, and there’s an update regarding the goalkeeping situation.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal have a verbal agreement with Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia. Although Arsenal has not yet submitted a bid, Espanyol is aware of Arsenal’s interest in Garcia, whom they consider a suitable backup for fellow Spaniard David Raya, should Aaron Ramsdale depart.
That departure seems increasingly likely, as David Ornstein notes that Wolves have proposed a loan deal with an option to buy for Ramsdale. Wolves would cover most of his wages, though they anticipate that completing the deal may be challenging.
Ramsdale has also attracted interest from Ajax, but Arsenal turned down their approach earlier in the transfer window.
Southampton are also pursuing Ramsdale, whose contract with Arsenal is valid until at least 2026.
Ramsdale was benched by Raya at the beginning of last season and had to serve as the backup goalkeeper for the North London club.
Additionally, Arsenal are negotiating with another Premier League team regarding one of their fringe players.
Nottingham Forest’s £25 million bid for Eddie Nketiah has been turned down by Arsenal, who are seeking at least £30 million for the striker. Nketiah had previously agreed on personal terms with Marseille, but the transfer fell through due to disagreements over the fee.
