Barcelona monitors surprise deal from Saudi league

Barcelona is aiming to reclaim its former glory this season under the guidance of German coach Hans Flick, following a challenging period under previous coach Xavi Hernandez. To strengthen their squad, Barcelona is considering a deal with French midfielder N’Golo Kante before the summer transfer window closes.

Spanish newspaper Sport reports that Kante is a potential target to bolster the defensive midfield position, with his current market value around 9 million euros. Despite some reservations from Flick regarding Kante’s age, club president Joan Laporta is particularly keen on securing the French player.

Kante, who has been with Al-Ittihad Jeddah since July 2023, is under contract with the Saudi club until June 2026. However, Barcelona’s immediate priority seems to be acquiring a left winger to enhance their attacking options and improve their offensive capabilities.

The report notes that Barcelona is currently evaluating whether to pursue a defensive midfielder right away, with Kante still under consideration. The club believes that the midfield will improve with the return of Gavi, Pedri, and Frenkie de Jong, potentially reducing the urgency for a new signing in that position.
