Thiago Alcantara has reportedly returned to Liverpool after leaving his role in Barcelona.
At the conclusion of the 23/24 season, Thiago, a Spaniard, departed the club as his contract ended.
Although his time at Anfield began with promise, Thiago’s Liverpool career was significantly affected by frequent injuries.
Soon after leaving Merseyside, it was announced that Thiago had retired from professional football.
On Instagram, he expressed: “I will always be ready to give back what I have received, and I am thankful for the time I have had.
“Thank you, football, and to everyone who supported me and helped me grow as both a player and a person. See you soon.”
Thiago then briefly joined Hansi Flick’s team at Barcelona but left after just a month.
According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Thiago has returned to Liverpool because he needs to stay in the UK for the rest of the year due to tax matters related to his contract’s termination with the Reds.
Following his departure from Liverpool, Thiago wrote a heartfelt letter to the fans.
It said: “Appreciation and gratitude are the words that come to mind as I say goodbye to all of you, Reds. I am also deeply thankful.”
“I’m grateful for the chance to be part of this city, this club, and this community. The unwavering support I’ve received from day one has been incredible: the cheers from Anfield, the chants from the Kop… it’s been amazing and overwhelming.
“The fan base here is truly special for a one-of-a-kind club. These last four years have been a period of growth for me and my family—filled with both victories and defeats, but undeniably a transformative experience.”
The letter went on: “To my teammates, coaches, staff, and everyone at the club: you’ve all been integral to this journey. And to the fans, I can’t find the words. Just know that you have my deepest gratitude forever. Thank you; it has been an honor.
Wishing all the best always, Liverpool FC.”
