Greenock Morton Football Club and the broader Scottish football community are mourning the death of Martin Doak, a legendary figure for the club and the grandfather of rising Scotland and Liverpool star Ben Doak. Martin, who was 60 years old, leaves behind a legacy cherished by many.

Martin Doak’s football career was closely associated with Greenock Morton, where he spent most of his playing days. After joining the club from Shamrock Boys Club in 1979, he quickly became an essential player. He made his first-team debut at just 18 and went on to make over 300 appearances for Morton over 15 years.

Doak’s dedication and skill endeared him to Morton fans. He played 317 matches and scored 34 goals, reflecting his significant impact on the team. Though he had a brief loan period at Falkirk in 1984 and spent two years with Adelaide Hellas in Australia from 1988 to 1990, Morton remained his primary footballing home.

In 1994, a severe knee injury ended Doak’s playing career, but his influence persisted long after his retirement. He was well-regarded not only for his on-field contributions but also for his character and passion for the sport.

Greenock Morton Football Club honored Doak with a statement expressing their deep sorrow at his passing and recognizing his crucial role in the club’s history. The club’s tribute highlights the high esteem in which he was held, both as a footballer and a person.

Martin Doak’s legacy is continued by his grandson, Ben Doak, who is emerging as a notable talent with Liverpool and the Scotland national team. Ben’s success reflects the footballing spirit that runs in the family and ensures that the Doak name will continue to be celebrated.

Although the loss of Martin Doak is deeply felt, his memory will endure at Cappielow and beyond. As the football community gathers to remember him, his contributions to the game will be honored and celebrated for years to come.
