Fulham is close to completing a ÂŁ25 million transfer for Burnley midfielder Sander Berge. This acquisition comes as Fulham seeks to replace Joao Palhinha, who recently transferred to Bayern Munich for up to ÂŁ46.5 million. The Berge deal includes an initial ÂŁ20 million payment, with an additional ÂŁ5 million in potential add-ons.
Berge is set for a medical examination in London, and his agent will also be present to finalize the transfer. Manchester United had shown interest in Berge as an alternative to their primary target, Manuel Ugarte. However, negotiations with PSG for Ugarte have stalled due to PSGâs firm âŹ60 million (ÂŁ51 million) asking price, which United has found difficult to meet.
Fulhamâs focus on Berge means they will no longer pursue Scott McTominay, who they had previously targeted despite having two bids rejected by Manchester United. Berge, who previously played for Sheffield United, was also a target for United in 2019, though there was confusion at the time regarding his arrival.
Manchester United is now considering a different approach for Ugarte, potentially a loan with an obligation to buy, to manage the financial impact over next season. This approach aims to secure Ugarte while negotiating better terms with PSG.
