Sepp van den Berg’s future may have become clearer after Sky reporter’s evening update

Liverpool have reportedly accepted offers for Sepp van den Berg from both Brentford and Bayer Leverkusen, though a preferred option may be emerging. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool has given the go-ahead for bids of £20m plus £5m in add-ons from both clubs.

Liverpool might support Leverkusen’s pursuit of Van den Berg if they can secure Piero Hincapie from Atletico Madrid, with Liverpool keen to sign Hincapie despite Alonso’s reluctance to sell the Ecuadorian center-back (Fichajes). If Leverkusen cannot secure Hincapie, it could give Brentford a clear path to sign Van den Berg. Brentford, who recently acquired Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool for £27.5m, might then quickly add Van den Berg to their squad.

Plettenberg’s update highlights the financial advantage Premier League clubs have over their European counterparts. Despite finishing 16th last season, Brentford appears better positioned to acquire the 22-year-old than the Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen.

For Van den Berg, joining Brentford would offer a chance to showcase his abilities in the Premier League, a league he has yet to experience with Liverpool, where he only played in domestic cup matches (Transfermarkt).

It would be quite ironic if Van den Berg were to join Brentford and make his debut against Liverpool at Anfield this coming Sunday.
