Arne Slot drops X-rated comment about Liverpool player in press conference ahead of Brentford clash

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot dropped an X-rated comment in the press conference ahead of his first Premier League match at Anfield.

Liverpool kicked off life under Slot with a win last Saturday, defeating newly-promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road in their opening game of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Their next fixture will mark Slot’s first Premier League match at Anfield, where Liverpool will face Brentford on Sunday.

In a pre-match press conference, Slot gained attention for his candid response to a question about one of his players.

When asked about midfielder Ryan Gravenberch’s performance in the Ipswich game, Slot praised the 22-year-old, saying, “He offers certain qualities we value in that role. If the other 10 players had been poor at Ipswich, he wouldn’t have had such a strong game.”

Gravenberch played as a pivot midfielder alongside Alexis Mac Allister, with Dominic Szoboszlai taking a more advanced position.

The young Dutch player had struggled to secure a regular starting spot under former manager Jurgen Klopp, who left the club in the summer, but has impressed in midfield under Slot.

Slot also commented on Liverpool’s lack of new signings since his appointment, noting that they are the only Premier League team yet to make a transfer this summer.

When asked about his concerns regarding the lack of transfer activity, Slot responded: “No, because I trust the team. I’ve mentioned before that I inherited a very good squad, including many young players who can still develop. We’ll work hard with them and place a lot of trust in them. They demonstrated their worth last week, and I hope they can perform similarly on Sunday.”
