Liverpool ‘readying £70m move’ in final week of transfer window that would rock the Premier League

Liverpool could be about to send shockwaves through the Premier League with a late transfer, according to a new report, with Arne Slot believed to be a ‘huge’ admirer.

The Reds are currently lacking depth in their centre-back options, especially following Sepp van den Berg’s transfer to Brentford this week for up to £25 million.

There are four players competing for two centre-back positions: Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah, and Joe Gomez, according to Slot.

However, Gomez might be leaving Anfield this summer, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa reportedly interested in acquiring the England international for a substantial fee.

He was also omitted from the squad for the Premier League opener against Ipswich Town last week due to interest from various clubs.

In the midst of these defensive concerns, The Sun has reported that Liverpool are poised to ‘swoop’ for Jarrad Branthwaite from their Merseyside rivals Everton.

Branthwaite, who has been frequently linked with Manchester United this summer, is said to be ‘open to the move’ as he seeks a higher-profile club.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to offer £63 million plus an additional £7 million in add-ons to secure the talented defender, with Arne Slot being a strong admirer of the player.

Liverpool is reportedly ‘increasingly confident’ that they can finalize the deal before the transfer window closes next week.

Everton has already rejected two offers from Manchester United worth £43 million and £50 million for Branthwaite, who is reportedly “eager” to join Old Trafford this summer

He has previously been valued at between £70 million and £80 million.

Liverpool might be about to make a major splash in the Premier League with a late transfer move, according to a new report, with Arne Slot being a significant admirer of the player in question.

The team is currently short on centre-backs, especially after Sepp van den Berg’s recent transfer to Brentford for up to £25 million. This leaves Liverpool with four centre-backs—Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah, and Joe Gomez—competing for two spots.

Joe Gomez, in particular, might leave Anfield this summer, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa reportedly interested in him. He was also omitted from the squad for Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Ipswich Town, amid interest from several clubs.

The Sun reports that Liverpool is preparing to “poach” Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton. Branthwaite, who has been frequently linked with Manchester United this summer, is said to be willing to move to a more prominent club.

Liverpool is ready to offer £63 million plus £7 million in add-ons for the highly-rated defender, with Arne Slot a notable supporter of him. The club is reportedly confident they can finalize the deal before the transfer window closes next week.

Everton has already rejected Manchester United’s bids of £43 million and £50 million for Branthwaite, who is eager to join Old Trafford. His previous valuation was between £70 million and £80 million.

Branthwaite, 22, recently had a standout season with Sean Dyche’s Everton and was initially included in the England provisional squad for Euro 2024 before being cut from Gareth Southgate’s final squad. Southgate mentioned in June that while Branthwaite had a great season, it was too early to include him in the final squad ahead of other players.
