Get your shoes on! Manchester City is not a place to retire’ – Pep Guardiola’s no-nonsense message to Ilkay Gundogan as he insists returning hero hasn’t come back to Man City to retir

On Friday, Gundogan made a remarkable return to City, just over a year after moving to Barcelona. During his seven-year stint with City, he netted 60 goals in 304 appearances and secured 14 titles.

**GUARDIOLA’S REMARKS**
At a press conference, Guardiola remarked, “He’s not here to retire or relive old memories. It’s time to get his boots on and perform at his best. He’s already accustomed to the situation, the team, the city, and our playing style, so this move is practical as he’s well-integrated.”

Gundogan adds more depth to an already strong, though aging, midfield that helped City win three consecutive Premier League titles from 2021 to 2023. He is City’s second summer signing, following winger Savinho’s move from Troyes. As a free agent, the team still has the £82 million ($107 million) from Julian Alvarez’s transfer to Atletico Madrid available for further acquisitions.

**WERE YOU AWARE?**
Guardiola, however, mentioned that he does not expect City to make any additional signings before the transfer window closes on September 1. He stated, “I don’t think so. I’m unsure what might happen; there could be an injury, which we hope doesn’t occur, or something unexpected might come up that makes sense either strategically or financially. But as of now, I don’t anticipate any more moves.”
