Liverpool resumes Premier League play this afternoon with a match against Brentford at Anfield. Despite the early stage of the season, the team is already dealing with some injury issues that could affect their performance.
Arne Slot, who became Liverpool’s head coach this summer, will oversee his first competitive home game today. The team hopes to build on their opening-day victory over Ipswich Town by securing another three points.
Slot might have to contend with the absence of Jarell Quansah, who sustained an injury earlier this week. In his Friday press conference, Slot indicated that Quansah’s availability for Sunday’s match is in question. “We spoke to him after the game and again on Sunday; he wanted to train, but he picked up a minor injury on Tuesday and couldn’t train on Wednesday. We’ll assess him today [Friday],” Slot said.
While Slot downplayed the seriousness of Quansah’s injury, he addressed a misunderstanding about the player’s performance in a previous game. “I don’t think the injury is severe, but there may have been some confusion about my comments,” Slot explained. “It was suggested that I said he lost every duel, but that’s not accurate. My comments were about the team’s performance in the first half, not specifically about Jarell.”
It is still unclear if Quansah will be fit for the Brentford match, but Liverpool has other central defense options, such as Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Nat Phillips.
Liverpool’s squad for the match against Brentford, barring any late injuries or fitness issues, includes:
**Goalkeepers:** Alisson Becker, Caoimhin Kelleher, Vitezslav Jaros
**Defenders:** Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, Nat Phillips
**Midfielders:** Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, Stefan Bajcetic, Trey Nyoni
**Forwards:** Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Kaide Gordon, Ben Doak
As Liverpool prepares for their game against Brentford, they must address these early-season hurdles to keep their strong start to the Premier League campaign on track.
