Barcelona finally register Dani Olmo after exploiting La Liga loophole

Barcelona are finally able to register Dani Olmo thanks to a La Liga loophole which they have exploited.

Following a remarkable Euro 2024 performance with Spain, Olmo transferred from RB Leipzig to Barcelona for a reported £51 million.

Having previously been part of Barcelona’s academy, Olmo signed a six-year deal and was assigned the No. 20 jersey.

Despite being fully fit, he has not featured in Barcelona’s first two games of the season.

Although the club let go of Vitor Roque, Clement Lenglet, and Mikayil Faye, Barcelona’s severe financial difficulties prevented them from registering Olmo due to insufficient funds for his salary.

However, there is now a positive update on Olmo’s status, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that he will be registered soon.

The update follows an Achilles tendon injury sustained by Andreas Christensen.

The Danish defender, who has struggled with Achilles issues, is expected to be out for about two months.

Christensen will begin a treatment plan that may extend his absence further.

As a result, La Liga has approved the provisional registration of Olmo, as the injury is deemed long-term by the medical committee.

Olmo will be registered until December 31 and is set to potentially make his competitive debut against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday night.

Manager Hansi Flick has been frustrated by Olmo’s absence but remains optimistic about resolving the issue. In his latest press conference, he expressed hope for a positive outcome.

“I’m always hopeful; I was also hoping for him for the last game. It would be great to have him for tomorrow’s match,” he said on Monday.

“These are things that neither the player nor the team can control. We’ve discussed the situation, and we know it’s challenging here in Barcelona. I have faith in the club and hope we can register him for tomorrow’s game.”
