Liverpool could be set to make a huge summer signing before the transfer deadline on Friday, as Arne Slot looks to add to the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia
It seems Slot is on the verge of securing his first signing as Liverpool manager, with Georgian international goalkeeper Mamardashvili scheduled for a medical with the club on Monday.
However, the 23-year-old will stay with his La Liga team for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, meaning Slot has yet to make any additions to the squad he took over from Jurgen Klopp.
Despite the lack of new signings, Slot’s team has performed impressively so far, earning six points from victories over Ipswich Town and Brentford.
Regarding his Premier League debut, Slot commented to the media: “It’s been positive for many reasons. Brentford demonstrated last week with their first goal, and generally in their opening match, that they are very capable of playing out from the back.
“They attempted to do so here as well, with mixed success at times. They are also dangerous on counter-attacks and set-pieces. The only real threat they posed today was from a set-piece, which Alisson Becker saved us from in the second half,” he added.
Even though Liverpool has yet to concede a goal, a report by Dave OCKop suggests the club is considering adding a centre-back before the transfer deadline. Among the potential targets are Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.
Guehi, in particular, has frequently been rumored for a transfer to Anfield. However, according to Ockop, the England international is more likely to join rival Premier League club Newcastle United.
The report also confirmed that Liverpool continues to show interest in Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon. Although a transfer for the former Everton player is considered unlikely, it cannot be completely dismissed.
