Dani Olmo has been unveiled as a new Barcelona player, but there is one reason why he still cannot play for the club.
Olmo was officially unveiled as a Barcelona player on August 9, joining from Bundesliga team Red Bull Leipzig for a reported £51 million.
However, the Spaniard has yet to play for his new club, having been excluded from Barcelona’s three matches this season.
The delay in Olmo’s debut is due to Barcelona’s ongoing financial issues, which have prevented his registration with the club. Despite the club’s efforts to finalize a deal in time for the match against Athletic Club, it did not come through.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona is currently working on offloading Clement Lenglet, Mikayil Faye, and Vitor Roque. Lenglet’s move to Atletico Madrid seems imminent, but the club is also considering selling Andreas Christensen, who has attracted interest from several Premier League teams.
Successfully completing any of these transfers would provide Barcelona with the necessary funds to register Olmo, who excelled for Spain at Euro 2024.
