Chelsea looking to complete ANOTHER shock signing before deadline day as ‘contact made’ for £85m defender

Chelsea are reportedly interested in making another signing ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline day.

Todd Boehly has been quite active this summer, with Chelsea adding several new players including Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Mike Penders, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu, and Tosin Adarabioyo.

On the flip side, Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson, Diego Moreira, Tino Anjorin, and Kepa Arrizabalaga have all left Stamford Bridge.

With only a few days remaining in the transfer window, Chelsea is reportedly aiming to secure another new signing.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea has shown interest in Benfica’s center-back Tomas Araujo. Although Araujo, who is 22, is not currently available for transfer, his contract includes an £85 million release clause.

The report also notes that Crystal Palace had a £25 million offer for Araujo turned down by Benfica earlier this month. Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain is said to be interested in the young defender as well.

Chelsea achieved a significant 6-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. Following the match, manager Enzo Maresca remarked, “At times, we’re beginning to see the potential of our team.

“There are still many aspects the players need to learn. We need to adapt our pace—sometimes playing faster, other times slower. Improvement will come with time.”

The Italian coach also noted, “We’ve been working together for only about a month and a half. When there’s space behind the defense, we need to exploit it. Conversely, when teams defend deeply and there’s no space, it becomes challenging. We need to focus on making more passes and refining our process.”

“I want to see my team play according to our vision and compete in every match. This is the most crucial aspect. On the ball, I want a clear strategy, and off the ball, a team that is very aggressive.”

Chelsea will return to action on Thursday night, facing Swiss team Servette in the UEFA Conference League.
