The immediate future of Liverpool’s Stefan Bajcetic is uncertain following a sudden development on Wednesday afternoon.
Fabrizio Romano initially reported that Red Bull Salzburg was nearing a loan deal for the 19-year-old. However, a few hours later, Romano updated that Barcelona has made a direct loan offer for Bajcetic, without a purchase option. Barcelona is looking to strengthen their midfield after Marc Bernal’s ACL injury.
Just as it seemed Stefan Bajcetic was heading to Salzburg, the loan offer from Barcelona presents a new dilemma for both him and Liverpool.
As a Spanish native, Bajcetic might be tempted by the opportunity to join Barcelona, especially following Marc Bernal’s ACL injury, which could offer him a chance to play a role under Hansi Flick.
Conversely, moving to Austria would mean working with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders at Red Bull Salzburg, where Bajcetic could enjoy Champions League football without the intense scrutiny that comes with playing for Barcelona.
For both Bajcetic and Liverpool, the key factor will be which club offers him the most regular playing time. With the transfer window closing rapidly, the final decision could come down to the last minute before the deadline on Friday night at 11pm.
