Arsenal agree deal with Premier League club for shock signing no-one saw coming

Arsenal have reached an agreement with a Premier League club for a transfer nobody saw coming.

Arsenal have had a relatively quiet summer but have strengthened in key areas as they aim to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

They secured defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for £42 million and midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad for an initial £27.4 million. Additionally, they made the loan of goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford permanent.

Now, Arsenal are set to add another goalkeeper to Mikel Arteta’s squad. They have agreed to a season-long loan for Bournemouth’s Neto, although the deal will not include an option to buy. The 35-year-old is scheduled for a medical with Arsenal on Friday morning before finalizing the move.

Arsenal sought another goalkeeper to back up and compete with Raya after selling Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton. Although Arsenal had shown interest in Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, the Spanish club rejected two bids for the 23-year-old.

With Kepa Arrizabalaga arriving on loan from Chelsea, Bournemouth is willing to let Neto go. The Brazilian, who joined Bournemouth from Barcelona in 2022, has also played for Valencia, Juventus, and Fiorentina.

Arsenal have begun the new Premier League season impressively, with Raya securing clean sheets in 2-0 victories over Wolves and Aston Villa.
