Adrien Rabiot had doubts over joining Man Utd after hearing comment made by Lou Macari on MUTV

Adrien Rabiot had second thoughts about joining Manchester United after club legend Lou Macari gave his thoughts on the midfielder during a segment on MUTV.

In August 2022, United agreed with Juventus to buy Rabiot for an initial £15 million, though his personal terms needed to be finalized with his agent and mother, Veronique. According to a recent report from The Athletic, Veronique’s demands were substantial, providing new insights into the deal that fell through.

Rabiot was reportedly dismayed by the criticism surrounding his potential move to Old Trafford. Comments from Macari on the club’s media channel led him to reconsider. Macari expressed doubts about Rabiot, questioning why no top clubs had signed him and mentioning a “bad feeling” about the player.

This criticism seemed to cause United to question Rabiot’s ability to handle scrutiny. Although the Frenchman, now a free agent, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent transfer windows, nothing has come of it.

Rabiot had previously expressed a desire to play in the Premier League, reflecting positively on his experience at Manchester City’s academy in 2008. At the World Cup in Qatar, he noted that while his time there was brief, he enjoyed the unique atmosphere and still harbors a desire to play in England’s top league.

AC Milan have been strongly associated with a move for Rabiot, who, as a free agent, is not bound by the transfer window deadline.
