John Terry holds nothing back with three-word response to Declan Rice on Instagram over red card controversy

John Terry held nothing back with a three-word response to Declan Rice’s controversial red card on Saturday.

On Saturday at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal drew 1-1 with Brighton, and this result might be crucial for Mikel Arteta’s team, especially since they played most of the second half with a man down.

Declan Rice received his first career red card just minutes into the second half in what might be one of the season’s most unusual dismissals. He was booked for a late challenge on Brighton’s Joel Veltman just before halftime, and then shown a second yellow card shortly after the break.

Rice fouled Veltman near the corner flag and lightly tapped the ball just as Veltman was about to take a quick free-kick. Veltman accidentally kicked Rice, but referee Chris Kavanagh judged that Rice had deliberately moved the ball, albeit slightly.

Rice was visibly shocked by the second yellow card, believing it was a harsh decision. He later expressed his frustration on Instagram, stating: “Disappointed. Didn’t feel it deserved a second yellow card but will learn and be better for it. Proud of the boys regardless & thank you for the amazing support Gunners.”

John Terry, the former Chelsea and England defender, disagreed with the decision, commenting on Rice’s post: “Worst decision EVER,” accompanied by an angry face emoji.

In a post-match interview with Arsenal’s media team, Rice acknowledged that Kavanagh had followed the rules. “It was tough, it was harsh, but it’s one of those things. I have to move on from it,” he said.

The Premier League confirmed that the second yellow card was issued for delaying the restart of play.
