Barcelona release ‘the most expensive shirt in world football’ and fans are amazed by the price

Fans have been left in disbelief after Barcelona released ‘the most expensive shirt in world football’.

After a challenging summer marred by financial difficulties, Barcelona supporters might have been expected to feel disheartened as the new season began.

However, Hansi Flick’s team has made an impressive start to La Liga, winning all four of their matches and securing a four-point lead at the top of the table.

Yet, any positive sentiment generated might be overshadowed by the release of the club’s new away kit.

On September 4, Barcelona unveiled their new all-black away shirt, a design they revisit periodically. While opinions on the kit’s appearance are mixed, there is widespread discontent regarding its cost.

Fans will need to pay a staggering €114.99 (£97) for the standard version of the shirt from the club’s official store, and €184.99 (£156) for the player version, which includes a name, number, and logo.

According to Mundo Deportivo, these prices make Barcelona’s new kit the priciest football shirt ever. In comparison, Real Madrid’s basic shirt is €15 cheaper, though their player version also costs €184.99.

If purchased through Nike’s website rather than Barcelona’s store, the cheapest option starts at €99.99 (£84).

Fans are clearly displeased. One fan expressed their frustration on X, saying, “€185 for a shirt is hilarious man. We’re not buying that, I’ll just get the €20 version off the street.” Another joked, “At those prices, I expect the jersey to come with a lifetime supply of snacks and a personal butler to carry my drinks.” A third fan remarked, “I hope it comes with a trophy or two!” A fourth fan added, “I was ready to buy, but once I saw the price, no way.”
