Mo Salah ‘source’ drops major update on Liverpool star’s future with new contract yet to be agreed

A source has dropped a major update on Mo Salah following speculation over the Egyptian’s future at Anfield.

Salah scored once again against Manchester United on Sunday, curling a shot past Andre Onana in the second half to help Liverpool secure a 3-0 win. He also contributed to the first-half goals, assisting Luis Diaz, who scored twice in quick succession.

Despite his impressive performance on the field, Salah’s comments off it grabbed attention as he discussed his contract situation with Sky Sports. Following the victory, Salah mentioned, “You know this is my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it.”

Salah’s contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season after he signed an extension in 2022. When questioned further by Sky Sports about his future, Salah said, “It’s not up to me, but no one has spoken to me at the club.”

This news might be worrying for Liverpool fans, but reports suggest the decision now rests with the club. According to the Liverpool ECHO, Salah might be hesitant about a move to the Saudi Pro League. Paul Gorst’s report notes that the diminished reputation of his former teammate Sadio Mane, who joined Al-Nassr in 2023 and has been overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo, may be influencing Salah’s reluctance to move to Saudi Arabia.

The Senegalese international netted 12 goals in the SPL last season, while Ronaldo scored 35. Given that Salah and Mane are both 32, it’s understandable that Salah would look at his former teammate’s experience as a useful example of how a move to the SPL could impact his career and reputation.
