Arsenal considered a surprise move for a Premier League star before completing the signing of Raheem Sterling.
Arsenal made a surprising move in the summer transfer window by signing Raheem Sterling from Chelsea on deadline day. The 29-year-old joined the Gunners on loan for the rest of the season after falling out of favor at Stamford Bridge.
With Mikel Arteta seeking attacking reinforcements, the chance to acquire a forward of Sterling’s caliber—while avoiding most of his wage costs—was an opportunity too good to pass up.
On deadline day, Arsenal also had the option to sign Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman but chose Sterling instead. Interestingly, Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo was another attacking option that Arsenal’s recruitment team considered during the transfer window, according to Mail Sport.
Since joining Brentford in 2019, Bryan Mbeumo has made a significant impact, despite often being overshadowed by Ivan Toney. The Cameroon international has scored 53 goals and provided 42 assists in 203 appearances for the club, averaging a direct goal involvement roughly every other game.

While Arsenal did explore other attacking options, including Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman, they ultimately chose Sterling. According to Mail Sport, Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo was also under consideration.

Despite bringing in Sterling, Arsenal did not secure an additional striker to compete with Gabriel Jesus, who has been sidelined with injury, leading to Kai Havertz playing as a false nine in his place.
