Barcelona puts an end to Williams’ saga and sets a date to sign the player

Barcelona has reportedly set a date to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, according to Spanish media. The Catalan club had targeted the 22-year-old during the 2024 summer transfer window, but Williams chose to remain with his current team for at least another year.

Spanish newspaper Sport indicates that Barcelona plans to make a move for Williams in the summer of 2025. Relations between the club and the winger are still positive. Although Barcelona initially intended to pursue him next year, Williams’ impressive performances in Euro 2024 have prompted president Joan Laporta to accelerate efforts to sign him this summer.

Williams, whose contract with Athletic Bilbao runs until the summer of 2027, has attracted interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain. During the 2023-24 season, he appeared in 37 matches for Athletic Bilbao, scoring 8 goals and providing 19 assists.
