Reason why Arsenal F.C. defender Riccardo Calafiori was substituted during the France vs. Italy match in the UEFA Nations League group stage

During the UEFA Nations League group stage match between France and Italy, which Italy won, an Arsenal F.C. defender was substituted. The match featured Arsenal players William Saliba and Riccardo Calafiori competing against each other.

Calafiori, who was signed by Arsenal for £42 million this summer and was Mikel Arteta’s top choice for defense, has yet to start a game for his new team but has already displayed significant skill. However, he might face a delay in making his first start due to an ankle or leg injury sustained during the match against France. Despite being one of Italy’s standout players before his substitution in the 71st minute, Calafiori had to leave the field early.

Ousmane Dembélé appeared to strike Calafiori on the back of the leg, causing significant pain and making him fall. With Takehiro Tomiyasu also sidelined, this injury was particularly concerning for Arsenal fans. We hope the injury isn’t severe, as Calafiori had performed impressively against one of the world’s top teams.

Riccardo Calafiori successfully completed 64 of his 67 passes against France, achieving a 94% accuracy rate. Defensively, he made four clearances, one interception, and one block, and he also executed all of his long balls effectively.

If Calafiori continues to perform at this level, he could make his first start for Arsenal soon, potentially even in the upcoming North London Derby, one of the season’s major fixtures. We’ll have to wait and see.
