Man Utd source reveals player that ‘key figures’ inside the club backed and refused to sell this summer

Key figures within Manchester United reportedly refused to let the club part ways with one player who they believe deserves a second chance.

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS took a minority stake in Manchester United and assumed control of football operations, Old Trafford has seen significant changes.

During this transition, several key players, including Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Scott McTominay, left the club over the summer.

Nevertheless, one player the club’s senior management decided to retain was Mason Mount.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United’s staff chose to keep Mount this season, believing he deserved another opportunity to demonstrate his value after his acquisition last year.

Mount, who transferred from Chelsea after six years at Stamford Bridge, had a notable career there, winning the Champions League, making 279 appearances, scoring 58 goals, and providing 53 assists.

Despite the high expectations following a £60 million transfer fee with add-ons, Mount’s debut season was marred by a calf injury that sidelined him for most of 2023/24. Though he showed promise during preseason and played in the Community Shield and Premier League matches against Brighton and Fulham, he is currently dealing with a new muscle injury.

Announcing his injury on social media, Mount stated: “I picked up a minor muscle injury in the last game. After having it examined, it seems I’ll be sidelined for a few matches. I worked hard during pre-season to regain my fitness, and I felt rejuvenated and ready to go.”

He added, “I wanted to share my frustration with you directly, as I know you must be feeling the same way. I will do everything I can to return in top condition and support the team.”

Fortunately for Mount, this latest injury seems to be minor, and he is anticipated to make a comeback in early October.
