De Jong has been sidelined with an ankle injury since April, and there is still uncertainty regarding his return. He prefers to wait until he is fully fit before making a comeback and has declined to have surgery on the injury, despite the club’s recommendation.

Deco commented on the situation, saying, “I don’t understand all the talk about Frenkie. He has a contract with Barça, and we are very pleased with him. We’re eager for him to return because we need him.”

He continued, “As for the future, we want him to stay, but it’s ultimately up to the player to decide. Right now, the focus is on getting Frenkie back on the field, as we value him highly.”

Barcelona has faced challenges with De Jong’s high wages and has proposed a contract renewal with a revised salary. However, despite receiving a proposal months ago, the 27-year-old Netherlands international has not yet responded.

Deco emphasized that while the final decision about De Jong’s future will be his own, Barcelona’s intention is to keep him at the club.
