Liverpool is reportedly still interested in Real Sociedad’s midfield playmaker Martin Zubimendi, according to Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel.
The Spain international is regarded as a world-class talent, and Reds manager Arne Slot, along with the club’s board, appreciates Zubimendi, though they acknowledge that no immediate moves are expected.
Zubimendi turned down Liverpool last summer, which hasn’t negatively impacted the club, as Slot has successfully elevated Ryan Gravenberch’s performance this season. While Zubimendi remains a strong option for many top clubs, Liverpool can afford to monitor his situation without feeling pressured to secure a deal.
Given Liverpool’s recent investment in midfield, acquiring four new players—Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Gravenberch—over the past year, the need for Zubimendi might not be urgent. Gravenberch, in particular, has shown impressive development this season.
Moreover, Zubimendi may find limited playing time at Anfield, prompting speculation about whether other clubs could offer more suitable opportunities.
Additionally, Liverpool faces pressing concerns regarding the contracts of key players Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk, all expiring next summer. Thus, addressing defensive and attacking needs may take precedence over signing another midfielder.
