Report: Liverpool move on to new midfield target after Martin Zubimendi rejection

Liverpool have started the season well in all the competitions.

Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool has excelled in the Premier League, Champions League, and EFL Cup. Despite a quiet summer transfer window with only Federico Chiesa joining, the team has shown it can compete at a high level following Jürgen Klopp’s departure. However, they faced a setback when Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi declined a transfer to Anfield.

Liverpool has shifted focus to another midfield target with ties to Slot: Dutch midfielder Quinten Timber, who has performed well in the Eredivisie. Slot is familiar with Timber’s strengths and weaknesses from their time together at Feyenoord.

Liverpool’s interest in Quinten Timber stems from his versatility to play multiple midfield positions, a quality that Arne Slot finds valuable. Timber, the twin brother of Arsenal’s Jurrien, could be excited about the idea of competing in the Premier League against his sibling. Although Liverpool pursued him this summer, negotiations stalled. With his contract running until 2026, the Dutch club may consider selling him next year, which could benefit the Reds. Slot aims to enhance his midfield at Anfield; despite Ryan Gravenberch’s strong performances, he seeks to add more quality and depth to the squad.
