Germany legend takes the Ballon d’Or from Vinicius and gives it to his Real Madrid teammate

German football legend Lothar Matthaus recently discussed Vinicius Junior’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or, suggesting that the Brazilian could take home the award in its next edition.

While excitement surrounds Vinicius at Real Madrid, many football legends express concerns about a potential conspiracy affecting the award’s outcome. In this context, Matthaus placed Vinicius third on his list of the world’s best players. Drawing from his experience with the award, he noted, “It wouldn’t surprise me, as goal scorers are often more prominent than others.”

Matthaus highlighted Vinicius’s Champions League and La Liga victories with Real Madrid as justifications for his potential candidacy. However, he also made his preferences clear, stating, “I personally rank Vinicius third, and I believe Bellingham deserves the Ballon d’Or more, as he was the key player for Real Madrid in the Champions League and won last season’s La Liga best player award.”

Matthäus acknowledged Bellingham’s impressive accomplishments this year, ranking him as the standout player, along with Rodri and Vinicius.

In response to Matthäus’s remarks, Ancelotti stated, “It doesn’t matter who wins the award, whether it’s Bellingham or Vinicius; what matters is that the winner represents Real Madrid.”

Matthäus has been open about his expectations for the upcoming award ceremony on October 28 in Paris, heightening the anticipation surrounding the competition.
