Robert Lewandowski didn’t hesitate when asked if Lamine Yamal can become the best player in the world

Lamine Yamal could one day become the best player in the world if his career trajectory continues – but Barcelona teammate Robert Lewandowski has sent the teenager an important message if he wants to achieve that feat.

Yamal, just 17 years old, has already achieved significant success by winning the La Liga title with Barcelona and the European Championship with Spain, contributing to their 2-1 victory over England in the Euro 2024 final.

Recognized as one of the world’s top young talents, he debuted for Barcelona at 15 in 2023 and has scored 11 goals in 59 appearances since then.

In contrast, 36-year-old striker Robert Lewandowski joined Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 for an initial fee of €45 million and signed a four-year contract. He has since scored 66 goals in 103 matches, establishing himself as one of the most prolific scorers of his generation and a likely candidate for the greatest striker of all time.

Yamal made headlines again by becoming the second youngest scorer in Champions League history with a goal against Monaco, trailing only teammate Ansu Fati, who is currently sidelined.

Lewandowski commented on Yamal’s potential to become the best player in the world. While he believes in the teenager’s capabilities, he emphasized the importance of navigating the ups and downs of a professional career. In today’s social media-driven environment, Lewandowski advised Yamal to stay grounded as he matures.

In a Bleacher Report interview, Lewandowski was asked if Yamal could become the best player in the world. He responded affirmatively but noted the teenager’s young age, stating, “It’s easy to say he could be the best winger now, but he’s only 17.”

He emphasized the importance of a long career, pointing out that success is defined more by how one finishes rather than how one starts. “Over the next 15 years, he will be 32. The new generation faces significant challenges with social media; one day you’re a hero, and the next, you’re not.”

Lewandowski expressed his hope that Yamal remains strong throughout his career, regardless of public opinion. He advised him to focus on enjoying football and bringing joy to fans. He added that football is just a part of life, and while Yamal may be at the height of his hype now, it’s crucial for those around him to help him maintain perspective and understand that his journey will span many years.
